sneakers and neckties
Once,
Before deadlines and sneakers and neckties.
We set our own paces.
We walked places.
We watched skies.
And,
Before "do this" and "do that" and "I want it tomorow".
We took care of ourselves.
We'd barter.
We'd borrow.
Now,
We push and rush and grab for the dollar
to buy bigger cars bigger houses that are smaller
than the guy's next door whose grass is always greener.
More money isn't better.
It's just making us meaner.
If,
We could just slow down.
Take time to look around.
Write poetry to share.
Tell others we care.
Then,
We might possibly see
How happy we'd be.
